It was a dark dreary day today, but there's always something to photograph. I never get tired of it, but there is also so very much that I want to do I don't always know where to start.Sunday, May 15, 2011

Where Have I Been?
Buried in work... too much to do, not enough time in the day to appreciate what I see around me. Just keeping the head down and plunging ahead while pulling any loose ends together. Here's a bunch of photos, random subjects.

Plastic Easter
The books say that the resurrection of Christ is an event that has come down to modern society over a two millennium time span. What do we have to show for it? How is our collective faith expressed in contemporary culture? Does everything come back to oil? I mean after all, plastic is a hydrocarbon product and perhaps the plastic Easter Egg is simply our own exercise in irony... for what it is worth.

B - Day Photos
I had a great birthday with a German Chocolate Cake finale, remembering what my Mom always did for my birthday (it usually rained) thanks to Lynne's cooking skills!
I'm not exactly sure what the metaphor is for these photos, but tracks are something left behind that is evidence or an imprint of what passed, and a sunset is just a a sunset. I won't comment on that as a metaphor, but it is obvious isn't it?

Spring Blossoms
The Amaryllis in the house is blossoming, and I'm not sure exactly where it came from, but it has been here awhile and has a "history" from or around this family. I read a biography of Georgia O'Keeffe this past winter and have a senior student who had never seen O'Keeffe's work and yet peripherally approached its style on her own, and I connected her with the artist just this week. It was so rewarding to see the light come on in her eyes. I know I have mentioned O'Keeffe before in this blog, but I can't help myself.

Noisy Tires
I got out of school early to get to a dentist appointment in Bangor. Somebody asked me today why I drove to Bangor to go to the dentist when there are so many dentists around here, and I gave some flip answer about the dentists around here not being very good. As I think about it, it is a matter of degrees; I like the dentist I go to in Bangor and he is really good, maybe better than most of the dentists in Ellsworth if not all, so I realize how much I appreciate him and his staff.
So anyway, to the point. The studded snow tires I have on the car are very distracting, and I had bought new rims (cheap - I hope I got more than I paid for, but I doubt it) and put the old summer tires on them and just had to change them after supper tonight, so I did. The picture is a composite that is from three different shots!

Moon Shots
I understand that the moon has been at it's closest to Earth for a few days now... I haven't explored the details, but I suppose it might have something to do with general alignment, you know, the spring equinox and all. All I actually know for sure is that it has a profound effect upon my spirit, joy for life, and my belief that we all make a difference every day as we work with one another, and how we act, in what manner of attitude creates a positive/negative (take your pick) result. Simply stated, the moon is a beautiful aspect of nature.saying many things to those willing to listen.

Water Down Front
A fast shutter and a fascination for the movement and qualities of water made these shots, all taken down in front of the house at the end of what we all call "Intermittent Stream", a focus for me yesterday.

It seems pretty obvious to me that limited time has caused me to be rather inconsistent in getting posts on to this blog site. The real problem is that I am doing two others with classes and so find myself somewhat less able to keep this up as well as I would like. I will manage a post now and then, but the concentration right now has to be with my students and their efforts at blogging with their photos, so scarcity is the most likely rule of the present.
I do look kinda "cross-eyed" in the above picture, don't I? Oh well, if you can't make fun of yourself, you shouldn't make fun of others, so...
