Cooler on the Coast

... but even at that it was 91 leaving (H)Ellsworth today and then 86 as we left route one to head down our road, where it was finally 83. Cooler on the coast for sure, but still well over 90's in the sun, so I took Jen and Lynne out for a boat ride around Ironbound Island. Photo courtesy Jessica Lynne Witham. Bermuda Yacht Enters Flander's Bay

About 5 p.m. this afternoon a yacht flying the Bermuda Flag motored inot the bay and dropped anchor about 400 yards off Treasure Island. It is a beauty! At more than 100 feet long, the cabin space, the rigging and all the finish is just gorgeous. While it isn't a brand new boat, it is well-maintained and has all the newest electronics, including navigation satellite system and solid state radar. I took the whole family out on the speedboat and we got a closeup look at it then cruised along the shore down to Gouldsboro for a fun evening ride.

The last picture I took was off the mooring as I was putting the boat up and I got an osprey just diving for a fish. I had been casting my line out to see if there were any mackeral about and he had flown over to check on what I was doing. I thought for a moment that he was upset that I might have been after some of his fish!

Morgan and Dave

... (my niece and her fiance) came to visit Friday and stayed another night, so we went out on a boat ride this afternoon and had a great time looking at all the mansions on Hancock Point and the end of Lamoine. Anyway, here I'm posting pictures of Morgan and Dave taken in Sorrento Harbor.

Duck Rush

I know there must be a ton of fish here in the bay, as there have been so many ducks around all week and I can see "spotches" of rough water where the fish are breaking near the surface. I watched ducks fish as a group again this moring and then they got frightened by a rather large loon that must have felt his fishing space was being encroached upon. The picture is of the ducks as they were rushing towards the shore away from the loon. I saw a very large flock of them tonight out in the middle of the bay rushing in a similar manner, but looking as though they were actually chasing fish. What a beautiful world we live in!

Ride on the Bike, Roadkill, and the Ring

So I felt pretty good this morning, it was a bit cooler, and I took my camera with me on my morning ride. It had been a while since I brought my camera, but as soon as I got into the garage with the bike I noticed the shadows on the floor and got a few good images.

The first thing I saw as I got onto Route 1 was a red squirrel smashed up pretty well. I've posted road kill before, but this one was pretty gross and I thought worth posting. The damage we do.

Yesterday I started a ring for Jen for our 39th anniversary (last weekend) and it is an extension of the work I have been doing with fused glass as I tried just piling up a few small bits of glass to see what they would fire like. I broke the smaller one trying to grind the back of it flat, but then I realized it was fine as it was, so I soldered a bezel together and then finished the ring today. She was pleased and I may do more as I liked the way it came out!

Abandonment... Or Neglect?

Tomatoes Are Ripe

... and so we've been slicing and freezing as well as doing the sauce thing! The snails can't seem to break the skin on the tomatoes, but once into an open place they love to get in there and munch!

We also took Jennie out for some ice cream today, she really seems to like getting out and going for a little ride and loves "hamming" it up for my camera.
